We Booked a Flytographer Shoot in Paris and It Was the Highlight of Our Entire Trip

I have been booking Flytographer shoots for my clients for years. I always tell people the same thing: you will not regret this. Book the shoot. If not, you will have 1000 selfies and come home saying “how is it possible we didn’t get one good photo?”

However, I had never actually done one myself.

That changed on our girls trip to Paris this February, and I'm writing this post because it genuinely ended up being one of the highlights of the entire trip. Not just for the photos (although the photos are SO good). But because of how much fun it was.

If you've been thinking about booking a Flytographer session for an upcoming trip and you're on the fence, this post is for you.

What Is Flytographer?

For anyone unfamiliar, Flytographer is a service that connects travelers with professional local photographers in over 350 cities worldwide. You pick your destination, choose a photographer whose style you like, select a package (ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours), and show up. The photographer handles the rest. They know the best routes, the best light, and the best backdrops in their city. Your edited, high-resolution photos are delivered within about 5 days.

It's the kind of thing that sounds like a luxury until you actually do it. Then it feels like the most obvious decision in the world. You spend thousands of dollars on a trip, and then you come home with blurry selfies and photos where someone is always missing because they're behind the camera. Flytographer solves that completely.

I book Flytographer for my clients through my partner booking link. If you're ready to book, you can go straight there. But first, let me tell you what to expect.

Our Experience in Paris

We had been trying to plan this girls trip for over a year. Every suggestion died in the group chat. Then I watched Season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty (iykyk), said "what if we just went to Paris for a long weekend," and we were booked within 24 hours. Fastest anything has ever gotten out of the chat.

I figured if we were finally doing this, we were going all out. I booked a Flytographer shoot and requested Rachael Laporte (@rachael.laporte on Instagram), a Paris-based photographer whose portfolio had exactly the style I wanted. Warm, editorial, natural. But also… I loved her bio (you want someone whose vibe you like, so bios matter!).

The day of the shoot, we met Rachael in the Marais neighborhood. She had a route planned that took us through Place des Vosges and the surrounding streets. And I will be completely honest: we felt SO ridiculous at first. Three grown women posing on a crosswalk in heels as though we were shooting a Vogue cover. Who do we think we are?

But Rachael made it so easy. Within five minutes, we forgot anyone was watching. She gave us simple directions ("walk toward me," "look at each other and laugh," "just keep talking") and then caught the most incredible candid moments in between. The photos look effortless, but that's because Rachael knew exactly what she was doing.

My friends are genuine fashion icons. I am simply doing my best to keep up. I think the photos speak for themselves on that front.

We booked a 60-minute session, which I'd recommend for groups. Rachael delivered edited photos within a few days. Every single one was usable. I am not exaggerating.

Why I Recommend Flytographer to Every Client

It captures everyone in the photo. This is the most basic reason, but it matters. On every trip, someone is always behind the camera. Or you're handing your phone to a stranger and hoping for the best. Or you're propping it on a ledge with a timer. A Flytographer session means everyone is in the frame, and the photos are actually good.

The photographers are local. Rachael is an American that has lived in Paris for almost 20 years. She knew exactly where the light would be best at our time of day, which streets would be less crowded, and where to position us for the most flattering angles. You're not just getting a photographer. You're getting someone who knows the city.

It's easier than you think. I was worried about logistics, about feeling awkward, about whether it would eat into our trip time. None of that was an issue. We showed up, had an incredible time, and went to lunch afterward. The whole experience was seamless.

The photos are frame-worthy. The combination of a beautiful city, natural light, genuine laughter, and a skilled photographer creates something that a studio session simply cannot replicate.

It works for every kind of trip. I've booked Flytographer for honeymoons, proposals, family vacations, milestone birthdays, anniversary trips, babymoons, and now a girls trip. It works for couples, families with kids, solo travelers, and groups. Flytographer has photographers in over 350 cities, so chances are they're available wherever you're going.

Tips for Getting the Best Photos

Schedule it for day one or two. Don't save the photoshoot for the last day. Book it early in your trip when you're excited and energized. If something goes wrong (weather, scheduling), you also have time to reschedule.

Think about your outfits in advance. You don't need to buy anything new. But coordinating colors with your group (not matching, coordinating) makes a huge difference in the final photos. We planned to wear neutrals (blacks, whites, creams) to make sure we complemented each other, and it shows.

Pick the right time of day. Morning and late afternoon give you the best light and fewer crowds. Our shoot was in the late morning and Rachael navigated the light beautifully, but golden hour is always going to give you the most flattering results.

Tell your photographer what you want. Before the shoot, Rachael messaged us to ask about our style, what kind of photos we wanted, and whether we had specific locations in mind. The more you communicate upfront, the better the results.

Don't skip the candids. The posed shots are beautiful, but the in-between moments are the ones you'll love most. When Rachael said "just walk and talk to each other," those ended up being our favorite photos. Let your photographer capture real moments, not just posed ones.

Go for the 60-minute package for groups. A 30-minute shoot works for couples, but with three or more people, you want the extra time. It lets the photographer capture group shots, smaller pairings, and individuals without anyone feeling rushed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Flytographer

Is Flytographer worth it? Yes. This is the one thing I recommend to every single client regardless of where they're traveling or what kind of trip it is. You will come home with professional, beautiful photos of your trip that you'll actually frame and look at forever. It's worth every penny.

Can I request a specific photographer? Yes. When you submit your booking request, you can request your preferred photographer. Flytographer will check their availability and confirm.

How long does it take to get photos back? Approximately 5 business days. You'll receive a link to your full edited gallery with high-resolution downloads.

What if it rains on the day of my shoot? Flytographer has rescheduling policies in place. Your photographer will also know backup locations that work in different weather. Some of the best photos happen on overcast days because the light is soft and even.

Do I need to bring props or accessories? No. Just bring yourselves and whatever you'd naturally wear. Some people bring a bouquet of flowers, a hat, or a meaningful item, but it's absolutely not necessary.

Is Flytographer good for families with kids? Absolutely. Many of their photographers specialize in family sessions and know how to work with young children. A 30-minute session is usually the sweet spot for families with little ones.

Can I book Flytographer as a gift? Yes. Flytographer offers gift cards, which makes it an incredible gift for couples, families, or anyone with a trip coming up. I've given it as a gift and it's always a hit.
